I took a breath

I took a breathe today and it felt wonderful. It filled my lungs and when I smiled it was real. I took a breath today, so that all those times I feel that I cannot, I will remember the sweetness in the air, despite the rugged chill.

And though my mind feels at times to be apart, in shambles barely clinging to the surface of my skull, I felt at ease. The disconnection slumbered, and for a time peace prevailed. So deathly quiet was the confines of my brain. So sweetly quiet. The soft shock of a breath has left in me reform, so simple and compact.

I took a breath today, and I was born.
